Think about this before you start blaming the next politician that shows up on TV

A look at how you control your own happiness and wellbeing.

It was one fine day. Partly because of the sunny weather. Partly because it was a holiday.

I woke up and stayed till in the evening at my home getting a good rest and doing things that I love. After all, it’s not every day you get a government holiday free from all your work.

I waited till the evening and started getting ready. I wore my t-shirt and pants and got on my tiny little red scooter. I started the bike and drove slowly enjoying the surroundings and the wind blowing to my face.

I drove for ten minutes to the local school, got inside, showed my national Identity card, and my election documents. Waited for about two minutes in the queue ( why I normally wait till evening, so the queue is shorter than morning), verified my details, and got my finger painted. Finally, I cast my vote secretly, came back, and rode home, again enjoying the sunny breeze.

That is it. That’s the end of the story. That’s all I have done to elect someone to any position in the government (and sometimes to the opposition)

Isn’t that what the majority of us have actually done to elect someone? Yet, so many of us are crying out loud, demanding for our lives to be saved, rescued, and filled with joy, just because we elected those people.

It’s like if we had to sacrifice our time, money, and effort, working so hard, with our lives on the line, with our final breath, we finally raised them to power…

Actually. No. At least in my case, it was not. I mentioned everything I have ever done to elect someone. That was it. Easy-peasy.

I’m not trying to undermine the democratic election system, the value of the vote cast, or the effort our ancestors had to put into establishing sovereign democracy.

But isn’t it a bit hypocritical to demand so much of anything when actually, you haven’t put any effort to earn it? Isn’t it a bit foolish to ask someone to save you and make you happy by just spending a maximum of half of just one single day going out and write a cross on a piece of paper?

Your happiness is yours to earn. Your struggle is your trophy to keep. Your experience is your investment for the future. No one gets a say in it except you.

Uncle Ben did say that; “with great power comes great responsibility”, but there’s no guarantee that every peter parker will turn out to be a superhero, and that’s also perfectly normal. Even if Spiderman turns out to be a superhero, he might forget you, miss you or even choose someone more worthy to save instead (Like Kristen Dunst).

All you can do is find your own path. Or at least try, and you just might end up with a grand hero’s journey of your own, instead of someone for you to blame for everything in your life.
